When You’re Anxious About the Future
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
— Matthew 6:34 (NIV)
Devotional Thought
What if I make the wrong decision? What if this doesn’t work out? What if something bad happens? What if I can’t handle what’s coming?
If your mind is filled with "what ifs," you're not alone.
Anxiety about the future often comes when we try to control what isn’t ours to carry. We stare into tomorrow and forget that God is already there. He’s not surprised. He’s not scrambling for a Plan B. He sees what’s ahead — and He’s still saying, “Don’t be afraid.”
Your job isn’t to have it all figured out. Your job is to trust the One who already has.
God doesn’t give grace for next week — He gives grace for today. When tomorrow comes, His mercy will meet you there too.
So instead of rehearsing worst-case scenarios, rehearse God’s faithfulness. He’s never failed you before. He won’t start now.
Honest Prayer
God,
I’m anxious about what’s ahead. I’m trying to plan, prepare, and predict — but I know I can’t control the future. Help me to release my grip on what I cannot change. Remind me that You are already in every tomorrow. Fill me with peace that doesn’t depend on my circumstances. Teach me to rest in You today, and to trust You for what’s coming.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Reflection Questions
- What’s one thing about the future that’s making you anxious right now?
- How can you practically choose trust over worry today?
- When was the last time God came through for you — even when you were unsure?
You don’t need all the answers — you just need to stay close to the One who does.
