When You Feel Spiritually Distant
Bible Verse:
"Come near to God and he will come near to you."
— James 4:8 (NIV)
Devotional Thought:
You still go to church.
You still pray — kind of.
You still believe… but if you're honest, something feels off.
You can’t remember the last time you felt close to God.
Your Bible feels more like a checklist than a lifeline.
Worship doesn’t stir you. Prayer feels dry.
And deep down, you’re wondering:
“Where did the closeness go?”
Here’s the gentle truth: You’re not alone.
Even the most faithful people go through dry seasons. Even David — the man after God’s own heart — cried out, “Why have You hidden Your face from me?”
But God hasn’t moved. He’s not waiting for you to get it together.
He’s just waiting for you — as you are.
No performance. No guilt trip. Just you, drawing near again.
You don’t have to feel holy to be held by Him.
You don’t have to feel on fire to be faithful.
Even a whisper of a prayer is a step closer.
Honest Prayer:
Lord,
I miss You.
I don’t feel close to You right now, and I don’t really know how to fix that.
But I want You. I want to want You more.
Please meet me in this dry place. Restore my hunger for Your Word. Stir my heart again. Even if I can’t feel You, I choose to believe You’re near.
Draw me back, one quiet moment at a time.
Amen.
Reflection Questions:
-
What’s been getting in the way of your time with God?
-
What’s one small step you can take today to reconnect with Him?
-
Can you remember a time you felt close to God — and what helped you get there?
A Gentle Reminder:
Closeness with God isn't about your feelings — it’s about your faith.Even if your heart feels cold, His arms are still warm.
He hasn’t left. He never will.
Just turn. He’s already reaching for you.
